An amnesiac deserts the army to live alone in a seaside squat. A hot summer of solitude leads Adam to increasingly extreme and destructive behaviour. Eventually, Adam is sent to an institution where adjusting to his new surroundings and formal removal from society means he is free from striving to find his place within it. Based on the 1963 novel Le Procès-Verbal by J. M. G. Le Clézio.
This piece is Arthur Keegan-Bole's first opera and is a collaboration with Elisse Power whose adaptation of Le Clezio's novel focuses on the internal struggle of its protagonist to stave off madness and rejoin society.
John Upperton performed the hugely demanding role of Adam Pollo in the première performance at Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival in a production by ARPA Productions. Performances were on 11th and 12th August and a recording of the first performance can be seen here.
